Good message Clarke.
To the Cubmaster in transition to Scoutmaster:
You have been somewhat nervous?
You should be!
If you aren’t nervous you don’t understand the problem 🙂
Important jobs are rarely easy. Recognizing that it’s a big job, that we need training and we need LOTS of help from our COR and Committee is a good first step.
I’ll try and say this as diplomatically as possible, but it seems to me that the BSA maybe needs an unTraining course for Cub leaders going into Boy Scouts. It needs to be made abundantly clear that Boy Scouts is NOT a Cub Scout program for older Scouts! Leaders need to make a break with the old way and embrace the new way.
Patrols are not dens. Patrol Leaders are not Den Leaders. SPLs are not Cubmasters. Troop meetings are not Pack Meetings. Campouts are not Pack outings. Something new, and wonderful, and exciting is about to happen if the transition is handled well. Have fun.
