Oh yeah, we had 4 Scouts and 3 Leaders.
I’m not sure that I totally agree with the idea that a trek must have more Scouts than Leaders. Maybe usually a good thing, but not always.
When hiking the AT I have often had fewer adults on the trail hiking, but more adults than Scouts on the trip. This is because several of the adults work as base campers, watching after cars and gear, helping in emergencies (removing Scouts and Leaders from the trail), resupply runs and generally vacationing in the mountains.
We just finished a houseboat trip on the St. Johns River for a week. The Scouts (and leaders) took the Coast Guard Safe Boating class. We did some canoeing during the year. We rented a boat from Holly Bluff Marina in Deland Florida. We visited Blue Springs and parked our boat in Silver Glen Springs for two days. The Scouts led the trip, cooked the meals and planned their days. I had some leadership training in the mornings (John Maxwell material) before we turned off the generator and A/C. Not exactly roughing it with three bedrooms, A/C and full kitchen.
