Clarke,
WRT George, who had the question about positions such as Historian for rank advancment. Your answer is good – I may have some of my committee listen to it. One thing he could do is to work with the boy in question to see what he can bring to the position. For example, I found out that our then-new Historian was taking a movie making elective in school. Usually our Historian did little other than print pictures for our recruiting pictures, but I encouraged the new one to do more. He promptly made slide shows for recruiting, and a dvd of our summer camp experience, complete with helmet cam of whitewater rafting, for any boy who wanted one (That was such a hit he followed it up with a dvd of our beach camp, including video from his boogie board.) Finally, he made a photobook of the last year, again available to any boy who wanted one.
Thanks so much for the letters from camp. Made me feel at home again. I especially liked the marching, and the camp director’s answer to the question about what Merit Badges… Do the ones you can only do at camp is always my advice, but it often makes the hard driving parents look uncomfortable.: they want the boys to do Eagle requireds. I appreciate the validation!
