The Most Important Volunteers in Scouting

Who are the most important volunteers in Scouting? They have more power and influence than Council Presidents, Commissioners, Scoutmasters and Cubmasters all put together.

Without their participation and support Scouting would quickly come to a complete halt. They bring endless energy, resources and real transformational power to their role. They are the only volunteers we simply cannot afford to lose. Have you guessed it yet? The single most important volunteers in Scouting are the Scouts themselves.

Scouts make a voluntary decision to participate in their Packs, Troops, and Crews from week to week. If the program falls flat they stop volunteering their participation. All of the time, effort, money and resources adults dedicate to Scouting have no value if the Scouts don’t volunteer right along with them. Of course the work that we Scoutmasters and our fellow adult volunteers put into Scouting is important but, in many ways, we are not all that significant in comparison with the Scouts. We have our positions only to serve the interests and goals of the Scouts and thus encourage their participation. If must never lose sight of our role in serving these most important volunteers
