Scoutmaster's Reward
Even the happiest man in the world still has difficulties to contend with. It is the satisfaction of having successfully faced difficulties that breeds real accomplishment. Don’t expect your life as a Scoutmaster to be a bed of roses; there would be no fun in it if it were. You are bound to meet with disappointments and setbacks. Be patient. You will have to bear patiently with irritating criticisms and red tape bonds to some extent but your reward will come. The satisfaction of trying brings rewards. This is the spirit with which Scoutmasters and Commissioners, Committeemen work.
Those who give up their time and energies, and in many cases their money as well, to Scouting, without any idea of reward or praise for what they are doing, do it only motivated by a desire to do good. - Aids to Scoutmstership by Baden Powell (translated to update some archaic terms)
