Scouts go, camping , hiking , exploring , discovering … they build fires, cook, and eat … they plan , develop , and present… they instruct , lead, and create … they sing , speak and yell… they run, play and shout… they learn, develop, and grow Scouts are happy when they are doing something.
Scouting is a doing – not a telling, listening, or sitting – game. With all the things for Scouts can do they hardly need reminding of what we’d rather they didn’t. How much of a Scout’s experience in your troop is possibility and how much is restriction? Sure there’s a line around the field of play but, honestly, do we have to worry all that much about things going out-of-bounds?
Scouting is a big field with lots of room.
Scouting is a verb that Scouts do… our role is to open the door and stand back, to allow and encourage Scouts to do for themselves, to let them get at it. The
