Scouting Cares
No organization cares about you.
Organizations aren’t capable of this … People, on the other hand, are perfectly capable of caring. It’s part of being a human. It’s only when organizational demands and regulations get in the way that the caring fades. From Seth Godin.
Serving organizational interests without loosing focus on the individual is a constant struggle.
Organizational demands and regulations must be flexible enough to answer individual needs without loosing organizational identity or purpose.
Scouting is a worldwide movement that is adaptable on a national, regional, local and individual level.
Scouting is adapted by each national Scouting organization that defines a program. That program is administered at national, regional and local levels. It must be broad enough yet adaptable enough to be applied to the scope of members who will apply the program. That is a pretty tall order. Most of the tensions and conflicts in any organization of this nature spring from bringing the program to the individual; in our case a Scout.
I find it inspiring that Scouting cares about individuals and provides them the opportunity to make their lives better.
Scout leaders have the duty to individualize this opportunity; that is the process of caring. When organizational demands and regulations become our focus the caring fades.
