Adolescent Brain
Relatively new technologies have allowed scientists to examine the development of the brain as never before.
Resulting brain science indicates that physical brain development explains much of what puzzles adults about teenage behavior.
I find it encouraging to know that a lot of difficult teenage behavior stems from physical brain development rather than lapses of morality or personality flaws. High expectations are important to healthy brain development but understanding how the brain develops modifies our approach and attitude.
I often remind myself that some mistakes or shortcomings in my Scouts are not because they consciously refuse to use a moral capacity they posses but because the capacity is still being developed physically .
