Podcast 316 - Scouting is Discovery
What has a Mesoamerican Step Pyramid got to do with this? Today I want to talk about leadership, but I want to see if I can get you to come along with me and really examine what this means in Scouting. Leadership in Scouting is based on discovery. I have (what I hope is a great) analogy to share with you, and this one is a whopper! It’s a really complicated analogy, you may have to go back and listen to it again. Imagine you discover an ancient pre-Columbian, Mesoamerican step pyramid in the forest. Wouldn’t that be something? You are out hiking and you stumble on this terrific structure, y ou climb all over the pyramid, wow, you can see a long way from the top. You devote yourself to studying the pyramid, and learn how to understand the symbols, and there’s a great message in those symbols that changes your life. This is exciting, isn’t it? You want to share this incredible discovery so you run back to town and get a bunch of young people together and take them out to the pyramid… You’ll have to listen to the podcast for the rest, I hope it works for you.
