Encore Podcast 1 - A Greeting Card
CaspMac from United States Thank god for Clarke he has saved me countless headaches and mistakes (for now). I can’t wait to hear what he has to say next. Thanks Clarke So happy to have found this podcast. INHibernia from United States Only trouble is this: Only episodes 300 and after are available on the iOS Podcast App. Brick Mason Matthew Goedelman from United States Thanks for the Brick Mason episodes over the holidays I loved hearing them again. Great Info! pittstl from United States I have been listening to the podcast for a couple of months now since my son crossed over to Boy Scouts. I had no intention of becoming a Scout Leader but was asked to become an Asst. Scout Master 2 weeks ago. I am armed with knowledge of many Scout Masters because of this podcast and Clarke has a great delivery. Keep fighting the good fight guys! Boy Scout Guru for the 21st Century Mikemenn from United States First there was Baden Powell. Then game William “Green Bar Bill” Hillcourt. Now we have Clarke Green as this century’s Scouting Philosopher. He “gets” the Scouting program and relates it in a fun (and serious) way to those wanting to know more. A MUST for all Scout Leaders and parents of Scouts. Educational, Inspirational and Motivational Liberty Bill from United States I first learned about this podcast, the blog, etc. a few months ago. I am hopelessly addicted. I became a new Scoutmaster about 9 months ago and the former SM had just competed his Woodbadge ticket and one of his projects was the Scout-led troop. He wanted to change the troop from a weekly series of merit badge classes taught by adults, focused on advancement and recognition to a truly scout-led troop. We weren’t sure this would work. We tried to train our SPL how to run the troop meetings, plan campouuts, etc. and he was a very quick learner. But, I had so many questions.
When I read one of the blog posts on “What I Wish Every Scout Parent Understood,” I was fascinated. This guy sounds like he really knows what he is talking about but doesn’t sound arrogant or like a “know-it-all.” In fact, the more I read and listen, I love his attitude and perspective on scouting in general. Every time I learn something (which is every podcast and article I read even though I have gone back to the beginning and listened to the first 50 podcasts and am going strong), I feel such a great relief to know I don’t have to do it all myself. The most amazing part about this is, it really works!
It is so much more fun to watch the scouts make their own plans, decide what they are going to do, deal with the problems that come up, etc. And what I have learned is, they are better at it than I ever was, by far. I used to spend so much time trying to plan fun, exciting, educational things that would be just right for the scouts. I worried every week about whether the scouts would enjoy what we adults had planned, how many would show up, etc. Now, I feel like I am liberated! I usually don’t even know exactly what is going to happen next, but I have developed confidence in our scouts that they have a great plan that the other scouts will like much more than what the adults would have planned and it is a joy to watch them learn from each other and progress.
I can’t give Clarke Green 100% of the credit for our progress, but he has been a major factor in shaping what we are doing now and is my most significant mentor, even though I have never met the guy in person.
We have a small troop, with 8-10 attending regularly in the past. Last troop meeting we had 20 scouts in attendance and almost all were in nearly full uniform (unheard of in the past). It was a bit chaotic and rambunctious, but what a thrill to watch the scouts interact as if there were no adults present. One of our PLs taught the skills instruction on winter camping, patrol meetings consisted of the patrold making large “Get well” cards for a former ASM who we sorely miss, then a game of catpure the flag oustide.
The adults don’t say anything anymore in our troop meetings except for a SM minute. PLC is run by the scouts, sometimes held away from troop meetings at the SPL’s house, with no adult leaders present.
When I started going back to the early podcasts, I assumed after a few, it would be very repetitive and I would have absorbed all Clarke had to offer. To the contrary, he has so much depth and so many insights that there is no repetition. His focus is on the scout led troop and I don’t know how he does it, but I have listened to over 50 podcasts and listening to Clarke is one of my favorite parts of each day.
My highest rating for this podcast and what Clarke is doing for scouting and - most importantly - for the scouts! Great information, food for thought Drawsolderprintplay from United States I’ve been a fan of Clarke’s blog for years, and the podcast adds some Scouting to my morning commute. A fantastic resource for Scouters Mike.Stock from United States I’ve been listening to Clarke’s podcasts since my son crossed over four years ago. Since then, my son has become the SPL and I’ve become the Scoutmaster. Clarke’s information and insight have made me a better leader and have had an extremely positive effect on how our troop operates. I can’t overstate just how great a resource this is!

Scoutmaster. I was never involved in scouting in my youth, so all I knew was what I’ve experienced with my son as a cub. This podcast (and a few others) have been such a help in understanding the how a troop is to run and most importantly, it’s the boys that run the troop, not the adults. Clark is great at discussing a nice variety of topics and has other scout leaders join his conversation so that you get multiple opinions on how to handle a situation or ideas for the program. I look forward to every podcast and feel motivated to do more in scouting at the end of each show. Starting a new Troop a year ago, and it has helped me in so many ways. Without this podcast, I’m not sure I would have had the motivation to keep at it. Looking forward to all the future shows. Best Podcast on Scouting Old Eagle Cub Dad from United States I eagerly await each new podcast. Helpful and insightful information from someone who has been in the program for 25 years. It doesnt get better than this. Great podcast! wfkeagle09 from United States I’ve been a Scout since was 7, I’m now an Assistant Scoutmaster (completing the circle). I can relate to many of the things discussed in Mr. Greene’s podcast (for example, things the boys plan, but don’t get organized enough to do….. relying on Scoutmasters to do everything….). Mr. Greene offers great advice on how to deal with issues such as those previously mentioned, in a positive encouraging way that allows the boys to learn from their mistakes and successes. My only issue with the podcast is that I can’t find the older podcasts (I just started listening recently), anyone know how I can find them? Awesome, Terrific Disciple of Green from United States This is as helpful as any scouting podcast could be. I’m a Comm. Chair and Unit Comm. and find the jokes entertaining(still thinking about that penquin) . Every episode contains useful information for all scouters. Scoutmastership in 7 min or (more) a great tool for all scoutmasters. Only complaint I have is there’s only one a week. Clarke Green knows his scouting and it shows. I use the info. in these podcasts to help guide scouters all the time.
