Getting along has more to do with us than others…
I get plenty of email from folks who are having problems getting along with their fellow volunteers or Scouts. Is there a simple answer that would resolve most conflicts and difficulties in Scouting? I think there is!

Clarke,
Excellent advice. This is something I strive to do until I have reason to do otherwise. I find often that people start from a distrustful position that someone is trying to get something over on them. It may be ingrained as a survival mechanism, but I find it exhausting.
With scouts I always assume they would like to do the right thing, but may not have the skills or experience. After we discuss what needs to be done or what the expectations are I try to followup with something like “I know you may have ideas about what or how to do this, but you may not and we’re here to help you learn.”
