Mölkky (pronounced mulkey) is a Finnish game reminiscent of kyykkä, a centuries-old form of skittles.
Mölkky is easy to learn, and can be played indoors or out. The pins and throwing stick for mölkky can be made from tree limbs or sticks approximately 2 1/2″ in diameter.
Players throw a stick (also called “mölkky”) at pins marked with numbers from 1 to 12. The pins are placed in a tight 3–4 yards from the throwing line. Knocking over one pin scores the same number of points marked on the pin. Knocking 2 or more pins scores the number of pins knocked over. A pin leaning on the mölkky or one of the numbered pins is not counted.
After each throw pins are set upright where they landed. The first player to reach 50 points wins the game. Players scoring more than 50 points have their score reset to 25. A player is out if they miss all of the target pins three times in a row.
