I have had a few different multi tools over the years but none of them compare to the Leatherman Wave. I read lot’s of multi tool reviews and the Wave came out on top in each one. The wave is solidly built an each component functions extraordinarily well. I blanched slightly at spending around seventy bucks for mine, but it has proved it’s worth many times over. I carry the Wave at work and when I am out in the woods and it has yet to let me down.

The Wave’s been around a bit, and when it came time to replace my original Leatherman, I went with the Charge XTi over the Wave. It cost more, and yeah, these things sure do seem expensive by contrast to a Swiss Army knife, but I did so because I wanted the better knife blade (154CM), and the crimping tool on the pliers. So far, it’s been GREAT in the field. It has given me pause to rethink my standing rule to carry two knives when I go into the woods, just in case one fails.
Just bought a friend a Charge AL (gotta hand it to Leatherman, they just keep improving things) for similar reasons. We’ll see how it ends up working in the field.
I’ve ALWAYS been impressed w/the Leatherman multi-tools, love giving them as gifts, and I’ve only ever broken one, an original model, and that when I was severly abusing it.
